As I begin my first year as Superintendent of the LondonIndependent School District, I am struck by the quality of the teachers andstaff in this school district, the engagement of parents and families in theeducation of their children, and the commitment of the London community topublic education and high achievement for all the students of London. I am veryexcited about joining this great family in working for high academicachievement for all our students. LISD is in a unique position in the Coastal Bend districts. Allparts of our community have a vested interest-including their children-in oursuccess. We have become a very fast growing district and one that is soughtafter by many in our area. The next step is to create a London High School. This will be a huge endeavor, but witheveryone’s input we can make London ISD a PK-12 district in a few years. Planning for a high school has many facets;staff, curriculum, programs, AP-Pre-AP courses; Dual Credit courses,extra-curricular activities, to name a few. As we begin to plan for this highschool there is an atmosphere of excitement as we move forward. The good news is that we can do this. With our community, with ourdedicated educators, with our deeply committed parents, we have all theelements for creating a high-performance district across the board. It will require a lot of hard work. It will require rethinking andrevamping some of our operations and systems. It will require being reallysmart, effective, and efficient with our resources. And it will require thecourage to do things a little differently when necessary. I look forward to working with the LISD Board of Trustees and thegreat London family to meet this challenge. The future of the children ofLondon and the London economy depend on how well we do our work. Let's getstarted! Hal Roberts |
